T he process of club fitting has changed drastically over the past 10 years. It used to be a timely process where numerous static measurements were taken to fit a player for clubs. Since the golf swing is not stationary, static measurement are found to be irrelevant.

Now special tape for the club-face and sole of an iron are used. Players hit a few shots with a 6 or 7 iron, each with different shaft stiffness and lie angles. These shots are hit off a lie board. Together the player and pro/ club fitter watch ball flight, and look closely at the face & sole tape to fit the player properly.

Club fitting is done to fit a player for his or her swing. Instead of changing the swing, give the player a club that fits the way they already swing. It is amazing what the proper shaft and lie angle can do for any players’ ball flight.
